In this book Roger Olson sets forth classical Arminian theology and addresses the myriad misunderstandings and misrepresentations of it through the ages. Irenic yet incisive, Olson argues that classical Arminian theology has a rightful place in the evangelical church because it maintains deep roots within Reformational theology, even though it maintains important differences from Calvinism. This is a book for those who want to know or should know what Arminian theology is.

This is clearly among of the best Arminian books ever written. Roger Olson is very irenic. There is no sense of triumphalism. This book is a must-have for all wanting to have a better understanding of Arminian theology.

I can't believe some Arminians still cower to Calvinists! Given the fact that all of Eastern Orthodoxy, virtually all of Roman Catholicism, all the Fathers of the Eastern Church, all the Fathers of the Western Church preceding Augustine (and 99.9 % after), virtually all of contemporary scholarship and all of the largest Christian movements today essentially support your 5 points. That is, 99.99% of all Christians and Christian scholars who ever lived. So, why do you cower? Why defend your orthodoxy?
It should be the supporters of the very novel and considerably heretical 5 points of Calvinism that should be made to cower and defend themselves. But by cowering you simply create the illusion that Calvinists are actually credible and far more important and informed than everyone else in Christianity (excepting certain pockets of evangelicals) knows them to be. The book is nice, but the time for appeasement never was. The historical revisionism of Calvinists (so often accompanied by an arrogance somehow understood to be a by-product of intelligence rather than simple ignorance) has divided and plagued the Church and its witness for far too long.
So, speak up and assert your orthodoxy in such a way that it can no longer be denied. As yours' is clearly "the faith once and for all delivered to the saints!"

This is an honest review of Armininism. Olsen has stated that the standard of Armininism is that God's goodness limits God's Sovereignty. any scriptures,no matter how clear or numerous, that contradict this standard are null and void. This is a very honest statement. One hears that both Arminians and Calvinists will be in heaven. Wrong. Only truth will be in heaven and God will decide. Either Armininism is false or Calvinism is false. One will win and the other will lose. There will be only Calvinists or only Arminians in Heaven. If Armininism wins, then any man can tell God,face to face, that I praise you for your gift of Christ, but I praise myself for the fact I responded. So I at least get some of the glory. After all, without my wise decision you would not have the pleasure of my love. But if Calvinism wins, any man will say: Lord you get all of the glory of my salvation, including the glory of causing my decision by putting it in my heart to come to Christ. And I get nothing.Only one of these systems will prevail. Either God is Sovereign, determines what comes to pass in time, and controls sinners,or sinners are Sovereign, determine what comes to pass in time, and control God.Either God rules or is ruled. Calvinists look forward to putting it on the line. No doubt in our minds who is going to win.

Most American Christians I meet are closet Arminians. This important defense of Armininism will allow you to determine where you stand and give you the courage to come out of the Arminian closet. Olson destroys the myths about free-will theology. A must have.

Does a great job of explaining Arminian Theology without trying to make Calvinism look stupid. Spells things out in an easy to understand way, while still delving into some deep theological concepts.
