You can expect anything written by Robert Picirilli to be clear, concise, conservative, and insightful.
This book is no exception. This book clearly explains how the apostle Paul's writings must be taken as a whole, not chopped in a piecemeal fashion. Doing so results in skewed doctrines, as Dr. Picirilli so aptly explains in this study. Romans is an extremely important book, in the Bible, to understand, and this study-book helps one immeasurably to do so. Highly recommended!

This book is designed more for Sunday School or personal study than as a full commentary that deals with the text, critical grammatical issues, that interacts with how other writers interpret troublesome verses, etc. It does not have an extensive introductions, etc. It is good for personal study.

It is safe to say that most commentaries are not Arminian. A few will give side notes in passing on controversial passages that are hotly debated by Calvinist and Arminians but most will side with the Calvinist side in the end. Is this because of the weakness of the Arminian position? I disagree. I believe the Arminian is strong when it is correctly exegeted and put into its proper context with the whole of Scripture. To isolate any verse and attempt to show how Calvinist and Arminians view the passage often leads to confusion more than anything else.

In this commentary of the book of Romans, Picirilli does a great job of presenting an Arminian view. Picirilli, as with reformation Arminianism, believes in the authority and inerrancy of Scripture and this shows throughout the book. Furthermore, Picirilli's outline of the book of Romans is well worth the $14.99 price for the book. For those who love expository teaching, you will greatly enjoy this book. The only drawback is the book's usage of the King James Version as their standard text. I would like to see Randall House use a modern translation such as the New King James, the New American Standard, or the English Standard Version over the KJV.

One final note about the book. It is interesting to read Picirilli's commentary on the debated passages of Romans such as Romans 9-11. His Arminian understanding shines through these sections. He does present the Calvinist view when it is necessary but spends the majority of his time simply showing the reader the biblical view (which comes to be Arminian). It is also interesting to note Picirilli's commentary on Romans 3:22-27. I will not add too much and allow you to read the book for yourself but Picirilli's defense of unlimited atonement in this portion is profound. In a few pages he gave me a stronger defense for unlimited atonement.
