I ask the readers from both sides examine this quote from directly from the Canons of Dort. Way before God decided to mend the flesh and bones of David Hunt, the theologians who have studied this doctrine at a far closer eye than any of us readers have done had this to say concerning the topic:
"Whence it clearly appeares that some, whom such conduct by no means became, have violated all truth, equity, and charity, in wishing to persuade the public:"
Note that I make a break between both of the these two quotes to point out that the 'innocent' Arminians (long before David Hunt and his ilk) were saying this about the doctrines of Calvinism.
"That the doctrine of the Reformed Churches concerning predestination, and the points annexed to it, by its own genius and necessary tendency, lead off the minds of men from all piety and religion; that it is a opiate administered by the flesh and the devil;...that it makes the God the author of sin, unjust, tyrannical, hypocritical; that is noting more than interpolated Soticism, Manicheism, Libertinism, Turcism,...that nothing can hinder the salvation of the lect, let them live as they please...[while God] has predestinated the greatest part of the world to eternal damnation, and has created them for this very purpose"
Do any these charges sound familiar? To those who think Dave Hunt is like the 'best thing since sliced bread', look at these two quotes carefully. Has there not been a time where the 'innocent' Arminians use slanderous tactics to get the Calvinists to agree with them? These words that the Arminians have reported are nothing new, but are subject to understand these words penned by the theologians at Dort:
"[These are the same things that] The Reformed Churches not only do not acknowledge, but even detest with their own soul. Wherefore, this Synod of Dort, in the name of the Lord, conjures as many as piously call upon the name of our Saviour Jesus Christ to judge the faith of the Reformed Churches, not from the calumnies which on every side are heaped upon it, nor from the private expressions of a few among ancient and modern teachers, often dishonestly quoted, or correupted and wrested to a meaning quite foreign to their intentionl; but from this declaration of the orthodox doctrine, confirmed by the unanimous consent of all."
These Arminians were just as emotionally and historically manipulative back then as they are now. The truth of the matter behind this issue really lies in what final words that the Synod had to say:
"Moreover, the Synod warns calumniators themselves to consider the terrible judgement of God which awaits them, for bearing false witness against the confessions of so many Churches; for distressing the consciences of the weak; and for laboring to render suspected the socity of the truly faithful."
Hence I say likewise: REPRESENT US FAIRLY WITH JUSTICE, NOT NONSENSE.

"What Love is This" by Dave Hunt is a valuable resource in understanding Calvinism and its implications. It won't be popular with Calvinists, but it presents the truth in clear, easy to read language. Dave Hunt has done a mountain or research and deserves a great deal of credit for his balanced and loving approach to what can be a very divisive subject. It is a must read for anyone involved in the predestination debate.

I had to write a balanced analysis between this book and books that hold to the Calvinistic viewpoint for a college Bible class. I ended up having to stop using this book because the sources turned out to be inaccurate, as were the quotations of Spurgeon. James White wrote a helpful review and critique of this book that reveals many of these problems. Whether you agree with Hunt or not, this is just a poorly researched, poorly written book.

Basically this book could have been a lot shorter if Calvinists were rational. If they accepted what the Bible actually says as written. But because every part of their rewrite of scripture into what they would like it to say is tied into 4, 5 or more other rewrites, the author must constantly repeat points he already refuted 4 or 5 times.

Mr. Hunt through extensive research, covers the false doctrine of Calvinism. From Augustine through modern day false prophets Hunt educates the reader and points out the false claims. He covers each letter of the acronym in TULIP explaining the origin and intent. He then explains the biblical doctrine being misrepresented. I recommend this book to anyone searching for biblical truth in a misrepresented doctrine. Please read this book before falling into this cult like trap.
